Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS)

As part of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader team, we work to support a whole school approach to student wellbeing by promoting consistent and proactive practices across classrooms. This includes gathering feedback and wellbeing data to help us understand student needs, guide future planning, and ensure we are providing the best possible support for student wellbeing, engagement, and learning outcomes. This is reflected in a range of ways at BPPS including surveying students on their experiences of school.

The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is conducted annually by the Department of Education to help schools understand how students (Year 4 – 6) experience and perceive school life. It gathers feedback on learning, wellbeing, behaviour and student engagement. We value student voice as an important way to improve engagement, wellbeing, and the quality of teaching and learning at our school.

The survey provides valuable information that helps schools better understand student perspectives, identify trends, and guide future planning. Teams across the school use the data to analyse trends and identify areas of concern, plan targeted wellbeing supports, and assist in informing the school’s Annual Implementation Plan.

The Attitude to School Survey aligns with our Pivot wellbeing surveys. AtoSS provides a yearly overview of whole school wellbeing and engagement trends while Pivot surveys helps teachers better understand how students are feeling and learning in the classroom on a regular basis.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the wellbeing programs and initiatives that we have at Boroondara Park Primary School.
