Foundation

Students enjoyed sharing the picture story book 'My Mum is Great'. Together we discussed what makes their mum great.

Students learnt the word 'portrait' and parts of the body that might be seen when looking at a portrait.

Grades 1 and 2

Students have spent some art time outside creating an Autumn picture. Students needed to include at least one leaf, one stick and one interesting object. Photos of the students creations were taken.

The photos were then used to create a mixed media collage. Students practised their scissor skills to cut out the images from their photos. These images were glued onto a background colour and colour textas were used to add more detail.

Grades 3 and 4

Students completed their artwork inspired by the work of Wassily Kandinsky.

Students explored the variety of artwork by Wassily Kandinsky as they created their concentric circle artwork.

Students considered the colour palette when they chose the paint for the concentric circles, the paper colours for their collage and finally the sewing onto soft foam.  Students used needles and thread to sew the circles and templates to position the circles.

Students discussed the word composition and how artists make decisions about colour, pattern, position and presentation of the the artwork. Finally, the students chose a title for their artwork and completed an artist's statement about their artwork.

Grades 5 and 6

Students have started a unit of work about landscapes. Landscapes created by a variety of artists have been explored and discussed. Students discussed the language of a landscape including foreground, middle ground, background, horizon and perspective. Students have completed quick sketches of  a landscape, explored the use of paint to create a landscape and used soft pastels to incorporate the techniques of blending, stippling and cross hatching to draw a landscape. The engaging of senses is also important in creating a feel of being part of a landscape.
