China Study Tour 2025
Claudia Johnson
Assistant Principal - Engagement & Wellbeing
The 2025 BSC international tour program recently saw twenty of our BSC Chinese Language students visit China. Accompanied by three staff members, the tour departed on 14th March and returned on 27th March.
The BSC delegation consisted of students ranging from Year 8 to Year 12. This visit gave the students the opportunity to practice their oral language skills, as well as to deepen their comprehension of spoken language. It was like being in a ever-changing, living classroom - and it was so much fun!
Ordering food, navigating transportation, interpreting signage, investigating the streets, and speaking to locals - every day presented new learning. Add to this the phenomenal cultural aspects of the tour - visiting the sights, experiencing the hustle and bustle of Beijing and Shanghai, and participating in traditional activities - there was so much to appreciate and enjoy on this tour.
This bridge between textbook knowledge and real-world usage creates a richer and more effective educational experience, and the students have returned to BSC with more confidence in their skills, as well as motivated to pursue and extend their Chinese language studies.

Over two action-packed weeks, students explored iconic landmarks, including the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Great Wall, and Terracotta Warriors. They also visited ancient walled towns, temples, and a panda sanctuary.
Beyond sightseeing, students embraced Chinese culture through immersive activities, such as Chinese language classes, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, cooking, clay sculpting, and calligraphy. This unforgettable experience not only broadened students' cultural understanding of the world but also strengthened their global perspectives. We are incredibly proud of their openness to new experiences, friendship-building skills and their exemplary representation as BSC ambassadors abroad.

The China trip was probably one of the top five moments in my life. I experienced so much and checked off so many bucket list items in such a short period of time! I will never forget this adventure because of how amazing and supportive the people were!

My favourite city was Chengdu because Chengdu has a lot of green plants comparing it to the other cities.
