Message from the Principal

Sydney Road Street Party
Congratulations to the many students who participated at the recent Sydney Road Street Party. Some of these students are 'old hands' at this event, having joined the fun over a number of years. It is wonderful to see our students challenge themselves and take their learning beyond the school gate to share with their wider community.
Many parents, carers and staff turned out to enjoy the event and all reported a wonderful community vibe. Thank you to the staff who supported our students as they entertained the crowds. Well done to all!
China Study Tour 2025
On Friday March 14, we farewelled staff and students as they headed off on their two week China Study Tour.
This program delivers a range of high quality learning opportunities to these students, including the chance to participate in cultural experiences and language immersion.
By all reports, the 2025 delegation made the most of every opportunity and had a fabulous time to boot. You can read all about their trip in this issue.
Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 cohort headed off on their camp on Wednesday, April 2. Over 150 students, accompanied by 18 staff members, enjoyed a varied and challenging program at Lady Northcote Discovery Camp, so we look forward to bringing you news of their adventures in the next issue of the Brunswick Star.
Respectful Relationships
The school is currently working with North West regional staff in the Department of Education around Respectful Relationships.
An Implementation Team comprising the Principal, Assistant Principal and Wellbeing Staff has been formed and will be conducting an Audit and Action Plan before inviting members of the wider school community onto a working group.
Our aim is to improve our school culture around Respectful Relationships and gender equality. The work of the Implementation Team and the working party will be focused on school culture, capturing feedback on student and staff experience and school responses towards matters of respect and gender. Surveys to gather this data will be designed in consultation with our regional advisors. the delivery of Respectful Relationships curriculum through Home Group will also be evaluated.
Unsung Heroes
I take this opportunity to thank the following family volunteers who have provided so much help to the school and its students.
- Cheryl Di Florio has completed a mountain of sewing for the school, finishing tablecloths and other items that can be used at functions and events. This was a mammoth effort!
- Karyn Di Florio and Gill Ward who manage our second-hand uniform stock and coordinate the second-hand uniform sales. Karyn and Jill were also ably supported at the recent sale event by a number of parents, Yvonne Perry-Lamb, Alice Gaby, Rosanna Martin and Jaci Blumhagen, whose efforts were greatly appreciated. Thank you
- Our ever-reliable Breakfast Club volunteers greet our staff and students with a smile and a bite to eat every morning. This team really works under pressure - and they do a fabulous job - so many thanks to Sally Baker, Kurt Blischke, Adrian Brown, Dee Coutts, Miranda Cumpston, Anu Dsouza, Sheree Feaver, Susan Gilbert-Koska, Chris Hagarty, Luke Horwill, Eshraqa Idris, Belinda Johnson, Niki Lillibridge, Lina Marijan, Daniel Morgan, Voula Nikolarakos and Diem Vo.
No matter what job they take on, the parents and carers that volunteer at BSC are highly valued and admired. Without our volunteers, we could not run valuable support programs, such as the BSC Breakfast Club or Parents' Association events, and all of these programs and events directly benefit your children.
Similarly, those who serve on the BSC School Council contribute their skills and expertise to support the Leadership Team.
The staff and students of the school extend their sincere gratitude to you all!
I wish all of our community a safe and happy holiday break.
