The Big Issue
On 11 March, the Year 11 VCE Vocational Major class had the privilege of visiting The Big Issue, an organisation renowned for its work supporting homeless individuals in Melbourne.
The organisation, through its magazine, offers a platform for vendors to sell a publication that provides insight into social issues including homelessness, mental health, and poverty. During our visit, the group was addressed by a guest speaker, Shane. Shane - who has a personal connection to homelessness - shared his journey, shedding light on the complex and often misunderstood reality of living without stable housing.
Shane spoke about the challenges of accessing services and employment as well as the stigma surrounding homelessness.
We were reminded that while homelessness may seem like an overwhelming issue, every action no matter how small can make a difference in someone’s life. It is a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a more inclusive, kind, and compassionate society.
Indoor Beach Volleyball
Throughout Term 1, Year 11 students have been planning and running health and wellbeing activities, as part of their Personal Development Skills studies.
Students have participated in a range of activities - such as boxing, downball and dodgeball tournaments.
Massimo Interlandi and James Zafiropoulos made arrangements for the class to go offsite to play indoor beach volleyball. The class had a lot of fun moving in soft sand and the uneven surface made the game tricky, with plenty of sliding and diving for the ball. The best part was the sense of camaraderie. Whether we were executing a perfect serve or laughing off a misstep, it was all about teamwork and enjoying playing a new sport. Everyone had a great time and appreciated the organisation and effort that went into planning an offsite activity.
We look forward to more activities in Term 2.
