Whack-a do!

Teacher - Bushwhacked
The Year 9 Bushwhacked cohort enjoyed a successful journey to the Cathedral Ranges earlier in Term 1.
Camps are designed to challenge our students, to support them in translating the theory that they have learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios. It was great to see them use their initiative and work as such a good team.

On our camp at the Cathedral Ranges, we learnt a lot. We set up our own tents, cooked our own food and hiked to Ned’s Peak. This required a lot of teamwork and responsibility, although it sometimes got a bit messy. It helped build our confidence, as we had to step outside our comfort zone and try new things. On the first day, we drove to Marysville and did the Steavenson Falls walk. We were told stories about trees falling on people and children going missing in that area. Even though we had to camp at the Big 4 caravan park, we still did the hike in Cathedral Ranges. The hike was fun but difficult, as everyone kept tripping over rocks especially on the way down. Reaching the top was very rewarding, as we got to see the beautiful landscape of all the hills and trees of the Cathedral Ranges. Overall, it was a great experience, and I can’t wait for the next camp.

The camp was a very fun experience where we went hiked, played games, had a campfire and learned many new things. We learned how to set up our tents, cook on a trangia and how to utilise our different character strengths. We saw lots of nature around us when we hiked to the top of Ned’s peak and walked to Steavenson falls and when we watched the sunset. I created so many memories throughout this camp, and I am looking forward to the next one.

The camp at the Cathedral Ranges was a lot of fun and we all had a great time. We learned new things - like cooking on the trangias. We built stronger friendship connections and learned more about new people.
One morning, we had already climbed a mountain before our friends would even have arrived at school!
We also got some time away from technology and our phones for a few days, to connect with nature and the world around us.

I had an especially good time when we were doing the hikes. Some of my favourite times were watching the sunset, doing the hikes and seeing the waterfall. Camp was good because it gave us a break from being in the classroom while still being able to learn new things. It was also a good opportunity to talk and connect to students that I didn't know so well.

Some experiences of the cathedral ranges camp that I enjoyed were looking at the waterfall, because I thought it was pretty and I liked the sound. It was very calming, and I took some photos on my polaroid camera. I also enjoyed the hike in the Cathedral Ranges because hiking up and down was fun and when we got to the top ... you could see all the mountains and trees around you. I enjoyed was sitting around the fire and making smores! They were fun to make and tasted good, and it was nice to talk to my classmates. I also enjoyed when we sat on the grass and watched the sunset over the hills. All the colours changed in the sky so I took some more pictures.
Making dinner with a trangia was another experience that I liked, because it is so different an experience from cooking with pots at home. It was a bit of a challenge.
