The SRC has enjoyed a busy term, with all of our members making great efforts in promoting our initiatives and encouraging other students to become involved.
The SRC has chosen our 2025 charity, with all fundraising going towards Meals With Impact. This organisation provides job opportunities and skills-based education for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds, as well as delivering culturally appropriate food relief for those struggling to put food on the table.
Meals with Impact is a local charity, based in Melbourne, with a multifaceted mission that is worthy of all the support that BSC can provide. You can read more about their work by visiting their website. .
Our celebration of International Women's Day was a great success with a good student turnout to listen to our speaker, Dr Natasha Jansz, as well as our nail painting activity.
Natasha's discussion was wonderfully inspiring - and judging by the really insightful questions posed to her I think that many in the audience felt this way.
There is a lot of value for the audience in getting external speakers in for celebration days, and we look forward to inviting more along throughout the year.
Our celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Harmony Day) occurred on Monday March 24.
Orange ribbons were handed out in the days prior for students to wear on the casual clothes day, and students were encouraged to wear orange or traditional cultural dress to highlight our support for progress against racial discrimination.
Events on this day included cultural activities, led by our Italian and Mandarin language teachers, and nail painting. Our publicity framework has been very successful in promoting this day, with posts going up on Teams, Compass and Instagram, as well as student-made posters put up around the school.
many thanks tot he community for kicking off 2025 fundraising with a whopping total of $1827. All proceeds from Harmony Day fundraising go toward our 2025 charity - Meals With Impact.
This year, BSC hosted student leaders from neighbouring schools at our first Interschool Student Leader forum.
The aim of the forum was to have students share their leadership experiences with each other, as well as to discover and promote different ways to support student engagement and voice at our respective schools.
This event was a great success, with really great input and discussion being facilitated by everyone involved. It is safe to say we all came out with a lot of ideas on how to improve our student agency and sense of community within the school, and it was also great to acknowledge how established our leadership structure already is when compared to other schools.
We intend to repeat this forum later in the year, and hope that it becomes an established practice for future BSC student leaders going forward.
The SRC has had some very early discussions on our contributions to the Twilight Market, and while nothing is set in stone yet we do have some fabulous ideas around a silent disco, cookie decorating, a card & bookmark stall, as well as some other more interactive games. We'd love to foster a sense of community around the market this year by creating more opportunities for younger visitors and more interactive and collaborative games and activities. We also think the concurrent FOMAD exhibition will be a drawing point for many.
