Year 8 Science
Ms Carla Cerchi

Today as a ‘last Science lesson’ for the Term, the 3 Year 8 classes joined together to demo the Elephants Toothpaste reaction once more – this time with a demo only version of Potassium Iodide as the catalyst, along with 35% Hydrogen Peroxide, dish soap and a little colour.
We ran the original experiment twice, once as the student version, a second time with the 35% Hydrogen peroxide, and then into the Potassium Iodide as a standard experiment before throwing it to the students to change the variables and improve the reaction.
As predicted, the response was a resounding “MORE OF EVERYTHING”. So more of everything, we did!
The result was a stream of very hot (80 degrees!) foam, and lots of suggestions on what could make it better.
A good way to end our term studying Chemistry!
Thanks to Mrs Dargusch, who suggested and organised the fun.
