Term 2 was a productive term for our rugby league program, with our Year 9/10 Girls Rugby League team competing in two competitions and achieving some strong results.

The girls first competed in the Karyn Murphy Cup in Toowoomba, finishing 3rd overall. The team recorded wins against Harristown State High School, Mary MacKillop College and St Ursula’s College, while narrowly going down to Wilsonton State High School.

Conditions throughout the day were challenging, with strong south-westerly winds impacting all matches. The girls adapted well to the conditions, completed their sets, controlled possession and defended strongly throughout the competition.

The team then competed in the Sunshine Coast competition, where they won three of their four matches. The girls defeated Deception Bay State High School, Bribie Island State High School and Good Samaritan College. Their pool match against Meridan State College finished in a 3-all draw after leading 3 tries to 1.

These results saw the girls finish on top of their pool. However, as Toogoolawah State High School sits outside the Sunshine Coast catchment area, the team was ineligible to progress to the grand final. This was known prior to entering the competition. The grand final was contested between Redcliffe State High School and Mountain Creek State High School, two schools with established rugby league excellence programs.

The girls represented the school well throughout both competitions and should be congratulated on their efforts. Their results were a reflection of the work completed at training and their willingness to work together as a team.

Congratulations also to Immy and Milla on their selection in the Darling Downs Rugby League team. Congratulations to Calarni and Adelaide, who were selected in the South West Queensland Rugby League team. These representative honours are a reward for their commitment to the sport and their continued development as players.

Looking ahead to Term 3, the boys will take the field in the Chris Flannery Cup. The competition will provide students with the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition while continuing to develop their rugby league skills. We look forward to seeing the boys represent the school and build on the positive results achieved by our rugby league program throughout the year.

Thank you to the parents and supporters who assisted throughout the term. Your support helps provide students with opportunities to participate in school sport and represent Toogoolawah State High School.
