Last week we celebrated Harmony Week with the theme 'Everyone belongs'.

As part of this celebration grade 1 students viewed the picture story book "Elmer the Elephant". Elmer is a fun-loving, patchwork elephant unlike the rest of his herd, which is grey. Even though he is different, Elmer is accepted by his herd and learns to embrace his uniqueness.

Students created a pattern for their elephants – these are some stripey and spotty examples - before cutting out and gluing onto black paper. We used a white oil pastel on the black paper to create an interesting greyish effect and then added some patterned jungle leaves.

Grade 3 have spent several weeks on their Castle and Cat artworks inspired by the work of Paul Klee. Here are some finished masterpieces.

Grade 6 have moved into construction during the past fortnight. Using newspaper, skewers, pipe cleaners and egg carton heads they have used simple construction and joining techniques to create a giraffe. We will begin to paint these this week and continue working on them next term.
