Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
I wish to take this opportunity to wish all students, families and community members a safe, happy and restful Easter and holidays. While term 1 was hectic and I had to take leave for much of the term, I really appreciate all the support from Parents and Carers in helping our Year 10 students organise work experience, attend TAFE YES program and attending various excursions.
Year 10 Work Experience
Last week I had the pleasure of driving round town to visit and call the many Host Employers who supported our Year 10 students out on work experience. The feedback from nearly all employers was incredibly positive and encouraging. I am pleased that our Year 10 students enjoyed such supportive work placements with employers going above and beyond to provide such enriching and authentic real-world experiences for our students. Thank you for all the time, energy, guidance and encouragement of our students while they undertook work experiences in all the various businesses both within Narrandera Shire as well as further afield in Canberra and beyond.
THANK YOU, EMPLOYERS!
TAFE YES Program - TRY A TRADE
Last Friday, the final TAFE TRY A TRADE Yes program day was held up at Narrandera TAFE campus with the final trade being Automotive. Our students experienced and learnt all about Automotive Trades and worked with Jarrod Dafter Automotive Teacher to explore the various types of engines and how they work and then were able to have a go at pulling an engine apart and rebuild it in a day! It was a full-on day, and students were very busy right to the end of the day. We wish to sincerely thank Jarrod Darter for travelling over to Narrandera to share your knowledge with our students and thank our SLSO Erin for all your assistance of our students on the final day. We also thank our SLSO Ronnie for his assistance of students in previous weeks.
This TAFE YES Program Try A Trade was an absolute success and an incredible experience for all our students! As always, these amazing courses are due to the tireless work and advocacy for our students by TAFE Services Coordinator Sheridan Scali, so a huge thank you to Sheridan!
White Card Courses
Two courses on offer. 18th & 19th May or 20th & 21st May
We now have confirmation of two Virtual White Card Course dates for students to attend here at school. These real time, face-to-face courses are via a team’s zoom session and meet all the requirements of the SafeWork White Card Construction Safety courses. I am currently taking students from Year 9 – 12 expressions of interest to undertake this training and will need to prioritised students going out on work experience. Please encourage your child to come and put their name on the list so I know the numbers of courses I need to secure to cover all our students. Due to the rules of SafeWork we can only host 15 students in each course.
The course is completely subsidised by the Department of Education and so there is no cost for the course itself. However, the SafeWork Card does have a cost of $30.00 for each student.
*All students will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier Number to participate. I can assist students to obtain this online but will require them to bring in a photo of their Medicare card to obtain this USI. Or students can obtain this themselves by accessing the following website:

All Careers Event:
All these opportunities are always announced to students at our morning assemblies, year meetings and in our newsletters. Any student or parent who has any questions in relation to these activities are welcome to contact the careers office for further information.
