Open Girls & Boys Soccer

School Soccer Fun
26th March 2026
Last Thursday, our Opens Girls and Boys Soccer teams travelled to Griffith for a day of competition, showing incredible determination and team spirit throughout.
With many Year 10 students away on work experience, the girls team was notably young, with just one Year 12 student, Julia, leading the side. Despite this, the girls rose to the challenge and delivered an outstanding performance.
In their first match, the girls team secured a strong 3–1 victory. Goals were scored by Isla, Kylah and Sienna in what was a very physical game. The girls demonstrated impressive strength and determination, consistently winning the ball and working together effectively.
Play across the competition was disrupted when the following game was stopped midway through the first half due to thunder and lightning. The girls and boys showed resilience as they waited out the delay in cold and rainy conditions. During this time, the girls displayed excellent sportsmanship, cheering on the boys’ team in their match to determine third place. The support and camaraderie between the teams was fantastic to see.
The boy's team, which was made entirely of non-soccer players, gave their all in both matches, unfortunately they were unsuccessful despite their best efforts. All the students represented their school amazingly and had an enjoyable day.
Heading into the grand final, the girls' team remained positive despite the freezing conditions. They gave everything they had, throwing themselves into every contest and leaving nothing on the field. In an unfortunate moment, an own goal late in the first half saw them trailing 1–0 at halftime. The second half saw a determined effort to fight back, with the girls pushing hard and continuing to give their all, accompanied by the constant support and cheers from the boys' team on the sidelines. Despite their persistence, they were unable to level the score, finishing the game 1–0.
Overall, it was a day that showcased not only skill and determination of both teams but also their resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship. They should be extremely proud of their efforts.
