Our Miniature Community

Grade 1 and 2 Integrated Studies
Our Miniature Community
To conclude our Integrated Studies unit, Our Community, the Grade 1 and 2 students worked together in teams to design, plan and build a detailed miniature community.
Throughout the unit, students learnt about the different people, places and services that help a community work well, with a special focus on community and emergency services. They then brought their learning to life by creating a miniature community filled with shops, houses, schools, sports grounds, cinemas, parks, roads and emergency services.
Students worked collaboratively to share ideas, plan their designs and create their community using a variety of materials and creative techniques. They showed fantastic creativity and attention to detail as they built and designed the different parts of their community.
This hands-on project gave students the opportunity to apply their learning in a fun and meaningful way. Along the way, they also developed important skills such as teamwork, communication, planning and problem-solving.

To celebrate the end of the unit, the Prep and Grade 6 students were invited to visit and explore the miniature community. The Grade 1 and 2 students proudly shared their work and explained the different parts of their community and what they had learnt throughout the unit. It was wonderful to see their excitement, creativity and teamwork on display as they celebrated everything they had achieved together.
