Book Week
Book Week 2026 was such a wonderful success! It was an absolute joy to see students and staff gather to celebrate books, reading and stories.
We celebrated with the following events:
- Monday: the annual Book Week Quiz with Mr Polwarth
- Tuesday: a special guest speaker from the University of Melbourne - Dr Tamara Lewit - to delve into the secrets, stories and snacks of Ancient Rome
- Wednesday: the traditional Book Week Costume Parade
- Thursday: a ‘Book Doof’ (essentially a reading party complete with jazz music and cups of tea)
- Friday: a screening of the Horrible History episode ‘Monstrous Musicians’ (to tie in with the theme of ‘Symphony of Stories’) and bookmark making session to finish off the week.
Thank you to our fabulous Year 12 MCs - Stella and Emily - and our amazing Year 12 judges - Maeda, Amelia, Yusra and Leon - who had the very difficult task of selecting the following winners for the Costume Parade:
- Best in character performance - Dana Tingwell as Paddington
- Most original costume - Margaux Richadot, Nora Adams, Will Walter & Josh Ozga Andrews as Tara, Darcy, Nick and Tao from Heartstopper
- Librarian’s choice award - Zach Douglas-Gillett as Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
- Best group entry - Joe Joyce and Ella Albiston as Hansel and Gretel
- 3rd overall best costume - Freddie and Henry Joyce as Frodo and Bilbo Baggins
- 2nd overall best costume - Cristina Palomar as Columbina Hyposelenia from Genshin Impact: Beneath the Moon, I Became Columbina
- Overall best costume - Evan Kondys as Violet from Violet Evergarden
Congratulations also to Kristen Brooker for winning the best individual staff costume award and the English department for winning the best staff group costume. They became the first team to have had their names immortalised in the ‘Book Week Staff Costume Award’ trophy - we’ll have to see what costume they pull out in 2027 to attempt to win back-to-back!
Thank you so much to Tanja, Chelsea and Chiara, as well as the English department and other staff who got involved - your contributions made Book Week 2026 truly special!
