Year 7 First Nations Day

On Wednesday 19th August, Year 7 students spent Periods 3–5 taking part in an incursion with the Nikki Visaj Movement, exploring Dreaming stories and contemporary dance as part of their study of First Nations history and culture.
Students rotated through three sessions across the day. In one, they created posters celebrating who they considered to be Deadly First Nations people, past and present, shining a light on the achievements and contributions of First Nations Australians. Another session focused on contemporary dance with Wren, giving students the chance to explore movement and storytelling through their bodies. In the final session with past student Brent, students experienced storytelling brought to life through dance, artefacts and the didgeridoo.
The incursion offered Year 7 a rich, hands-on way to engage with First Nations culture, complementing their classroom learning with creativity and movement.
