Year 4 News
Thank you for a wonderful first term! We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know 4ZK and are so proud of the way students have settled into their learning, built relationships, and embraced new challenges.
Looking back: What have we been up to this term?
It has been a busy and exciting start to the year, filled with rich learning experiences and special events, including:
- Peace Pole Assembly
- St John’s Incursion
- Kids Helpline session
In the classroom, students have been working hard across all areas of the curriculum:
- Mathematics: Time, Fractions, Addition and Subtraction
- Literacy: Factual Recounts and Persuasive Writing
- Inquiry: Learning to Learn and Health
As the holidays approach, students will be bringing home their “goodies and baddies.” A key focus for us at the end of term has been encouraging students to continue practising their times tables over the break. Developing quick and automatic recall of multiplication facts is an essential skill that underpins many areas of mathematics. Regular practice will help build confidence, improve fluency, and support students as they tackle more complex problem-solving tasks in the future. We greatly appreciate your support with this at home.
This week, students will be sending home their Fractions post-assessment. Please take the time to look through this with your parents and celebrate the growth you have made since the beginning. Well done! We will also engage in another unit of Fractions learning later in the year.
We also encourage families to continue reading over the holidays. Listening to your child read aloud, discussing texts, and fostering a love of reading will make a significant difference to their learning.
We look forward to hearing all about the students’ Easter celebrations when we return. Term 2 begins on Monday, 20th April. We hope all families enjoy a safe, happy, and restful holiday break, filled with opportunities for fun, reflection, and special time with loved ones.

- Continue reading regularly and practising times tables
- The class novel will be Storm Boy.

A huge congratulations to our Year 4 boys on their basketball grand final win over the weekend—after a nail-biting game that went into extra time, they came out on top!
