Year 2 News

What’s been happening in Grade 2 recently?

As Inquirers, we have been exploring what actions keep us healthy. We looked at the different food groups and which foods belong where. We looked at the different food groups and which foods belong where. We learnt that no food is “bad”, but some foods are sometimes foods that we can enjoy in moderation as part of a balanced diet. We also discussed how making balanced choices helps our bodies grow strong and gives us energy to learn and play. Students shared ideas about healthy lunchboxes and meals.

As Mathematicians, we continued learning about addition. We practised using doubles, near doubles and build to 10 strategies to help us solve addition problems more efficiently. Students explored different ways to break apart numbers and choose strategies that made solving problems easier. We worked on explaining our thinking and showing our working out. This has helped us build confidence and accuracy when solving addition problems.

As People of Faith, we began our learning about Holy Week. We started by visualising the story of Palm Sunday as it was read to us, thinking carefully about the images we could create in our minds. We then shared our ideas with one another and compared our visualisations to a short clip about Palm Sunday. As a final step, we wrote a summary of the day, making sure to include all the important events. The next lesson, we learned about Holy Thursday and repeated the same process.
