Foundation News

Term One has certainly gone by very quickly in Foundation. Today is Day 39 as we continue to count 100 Days of School! This Term we have learnt so much about ourselves and each other. We have followed set routines to get organised each day ready for our learning.
Our teachers are very proud of the way we have started to make friends and follow instructions by listening to the speaker. We encourage parents to allow their children to carry their bags into the classroom and to unpack bags, place lunch boxes where they need to go, and change take home books independently, as we are trying to encourage all the students to be Self-managers, now that we are coming to the end of Term 1.
As mathematicians, we have been learning about location and the language we use to describe where objects and people are in relation to others. We had lots of fun heading outside to take photos around the playground, then describing where people were using location language. We used these photos to create our own class book, matching them with sentences to explain our thinking. We also explored stories such as Rosie’s Walk and Where is the Monkey? to build our understanding of positional language.
We encourage students to continue practising their counting and writing numbers over the holidays, with a focus on forming numbers correctly and ensuring they are facing the right way.
As readers, we have also continued our learning of letter names and sounds. By the end of the term, we will have focused on the following letters and sounds: m, s, a, t, p, i, f and r. If you would like to support your child at home, you can practise saying the letter name, the sound it makes, and even making or sounding out and blending simple words such as mat, sap and fit. The students have really enjoyed participating in a range of activities to support their learning and working together in small groups with their peers and teacher.
We would like to wish all families a restful and wonderful Easter holiday break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2.
