Year 1 News

As we approach the end of Term 1, there is never a dull moment in Year 1!

The Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting Health incursion with personal trainer and powerlifter, Miss Esther. She spoke to the students about ways to stay strong and healthy both at home and at school, including brushing our teeth, eating nutritious foods, and keeping our bodies active through regular exercise. Working as collaborators, students were grouped together and rotated through four different activities, where we practised teamwork and encouraged one another. We also learned about the importance of warming up before exercise and cooling down afterwards, including time for relaxation and mindfulness, and how these practices support our overall wellbeing.

As mathematicians, we are tuning into addition and partitioning one or two-digit numbers in different ways. Students are exploring how numbers can be broken apart and recombined to support their understanding, using strategies such as part-part-whole and hands-on materials to build confidence and flexibility in their thinking. Students are also writing number sentences to represent their learning and explain their thinking.

We encourage students to continue practising their reading and spelling of tricky words, as well as enjoying books from home. Students can also continue building their number skills by counting aloud and writing numbers to 120, both forwards and backwards.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter break filled with rest, joy, and special time with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for Term 2!
