Argyll Take the Title at the 2026 Year 7 & 8 Athletics Carnival
Thursday's Year 7 & 8 Athletics Carnival was blessed with glorious weather, and students made the most of it — our year 7 events drew big fields, and participation stayed strong across all four age groups throughout the day. Well done to everyone who competed, cheered, and our coaching and fitness students and Year 10 student leaders who helped run the day and create a great community environment.

Individual Stars
The standout story of the carnival was a genuine photo-finish for Overall Champion. Charlie Long (Napier, Year 8) and Swaroop Sijin (Dunlop, Year 7) each racked up four individual event wins throughout the day.
Our age group champions were:
Year 7 Boys: Swaroop Sijin (Dunlop), who swept the 100m, Shot Put, Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Year 7 Girls: Alma Saunder (Burnet), victorious in the 200m and Long Jump.
Year 8 Boys: Charlie Long (Napier), with wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump.
Year 8 Girls: Natalie Dukic (Stirling), who took out the 800m, Discus and Javelin.
These students will be recognised at our end of the year sports award ceremony.
Plenty of other students had days to remember. Raphael De Maria (Argyll) claimed the Shot Put/Javelin double in the Year 8 Boys, while teammate Mia Nightingale did the same in the 200m/400m for the Year 8 Girls — a big part of Argyll's winning tally. Emma Harris (Napier) was equally impressive with wins in the Long Jump and High Jump, finishing runner-up overall in the Year 8 Girls. Ethan Hanna (Chisholm) won the Year 7 Boys 400m and backed it up with three further top-three finishes to take second in his age group.
Thank you to all staff, students and helpers who made the day run so smoothly, and good luck to our winers on the day that will represent the college at the Maribyrnong Division Athletics on Thursday 3rd September.
