Message from the Principal
As Term 3 draws to a close, I am pleased to share some of the learning, achievements and activities that have been taking place across the school.
Students have now submitted their subject preferences for 2027, after exploring the options available and considering their interests, strengths and future goals. Supporting students to make informed choices about their future learning and pathways has been an important focus throughout this process. These preferences, together with staffing and available resources, are now helping to shape our planning for the 2027 student programs.
Year 12 students are completing their final assessments as they approach the end of formal classes, with practice examinations scheduled for the first week of the Term 3 school holidays. The final weeks of Year 12 are particularly important, and we encourage students to continue to build on the work they have done throughout the year, remain focused and make the most of the support available to them so they can finish the year knowing they have given their best effort.
Across the curriculum, students have continued to benefit from a rich range of learning experiences beyond the classroom, providing opportunities to apply their learning in practical and engaging ways. VCE Chemistry students participated in the VSSEC Quality Control Program, undertaking hands-on investigations using advanced analytical techniques not normally available in the classroom. Year 10 Foundation Mathematics students took their statistics learning into the city, collecting real-world data through a bowling activity and public surveys to analyse back at school. Year 10 and 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students headed to Werribee Gorge for a practice hike in preparation for their upcoming Wilsons Promontory camp, while Year 9 Italian students attended the 2026 Italian Film Festival, experiencing Italian language and culture through film. Our International Student Ambassadors attended the International Student Forum at the Angliss Convention Centre, where they connected with other international students and participated in a range of presentations and activities.
Our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the school’s annual Athletics Carnival, showing great enthusiasm, participation and effort as they represented their Houses, supported by our senior students throughout the day. Events like this provide a great opportunity for students to strengthen connections with their peers, build a sense of belonging within their Houses and promote the importance of being active together. There has also been plenty happening in interschool sport, with students representing the school in basketball, soccer, and the Division Athletics Carnival.
Year 8 students continued the year-long MURRUP wellbeing and personal development program, with Day 3 at the Moonee Ponds Clocktower Centre focusing on identity and wellbeing. The program provides students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their confidence, resilience and self-awareness, while building positive connections with their peers.
Students and staff also came together to recognise two important events, Wear It Purple Day and R U OK? Day. Both provided valuable opportunities to promote inclusion, connection and belonging across our school community, while encouraging students and staff to look out for and support one another.
The past few weeks have provided some wonderful opportunities to celebrate the creativity and talent of our students across the visual and performing arts. The 28th Senior Art Exhibition at Neon Parlour Gallery gave students the exciting experience of showcasing their work in a professional gallery setting, while Jazz Night at the Brunswick Ballroom celebrated our Jazz and Contemporary Ensembles. The Chamber Concert at The Edge, Federation Square, provided an equally special setting for our classical and traditional ensembles to perform. These events are an important part of our school community, giving students the opportunity to share their talents, build confidence and experience the joy of creating and performing for others.
Curriculum Day on Friday 4 September was a valuable opportunity for staff learning and collaboration. Mark Dowley opened the day with a session on creating positive classroom environments through predictable and consistent routines. Staff also explored effective entry routines and checks for understanding, aligned with VTLM 2.0, before working together in faculties to develop and refine resources for use in the classroom. The day provided an important opportunity to strengthen consistency across the school and continue building a shared approach to high-quality teaching and learning. Staff have continued their literacy coaching with Misty Adoniou, with targeted professional learning tailored to the needs of each faculty. This work is supporting teachers to embed effective literacy strategies within their subject areas to support improved literacy outcomes and address identified learning needs.
