German Cafe

Hallo Leute!

We, the German Language Captains, are very excited to tell you about the latest BHS based event, the German Café! For the first time in many years, this event surfaced from the problems of Covid and welcomed an influx of Germanness back to Ballarat High for a day.

The Café took place on the 29th August, to aid all students of German in celebrating Germanic culture; presenting them and everyone involved with a treat and to show off our collective language skills.

The day was filled with laughter, but most importantly food and language. A variety of German food was available: Bratwurst (German sausage), Schokokuss (chocolate whips), deutsches Küchlein (German cupcakes), Spezi (German soft drink), Pommes roß-weiß (hot chips with tomato sauce and mayonnaise) and the famous Bretzeln (Pretzels). All of which were served in the German language by the senior German students and teachers alike, even by an actual German on an exchange in Australia.

It was a fantastic day of immersion within German culture, providing an excuse for zealous German students and teachers to showcase our combined love of this wonderful country and hopefully encourage the younger Germans of the school to further their journey in the language.

As the German captains, we would like to thank Frau Ross-Harris, Frau Bjelanovic, Julia, Mr. Nixon, Mrs. Kennedy and Mr. Fields, for their support of the German Language program at BHS, as well as all of the other members of staff who lent us cooking equipment or came and bought some food. You all made the day possible and we really appreciate the support for and love of learning about, the wider world!

Like always, look out for more German based adventures. Until then,

Auf Wiedersehen!

Eloise, Matilda and Isabel
