Year 11 Outdoor Ed Camp

Year 11 Outdoor Education Camp – Yarra Valley

The recent Year 11 Outdoor Education Camp to Yarra Valley was an unforgettable experience for all involved, filled with challenges, personal growth and a deeper understanding of Australia's unique natural environment.

One of the camp's highlights was the challenging hike of the 1000 Steps in the Dandenong Ranges. This iconic climb tested the endurance and determination of students as they ascended through lush forest, pushing through fatigue but ultimately conquering the steps. The sense of achievement at the summit was clearly visible, with students proud to have completed such a difficult task together.

In addition to hiking, the students were treated to an action-packed day at the Melbourne Cable Park, where they engaged in wakeboarding and kneeboarding. Many students stepped outside their comfort zones as they learned these thrilling water sports, facing tumbles and splashes with smiles on their faces. The high ropes course added another layer of excitement and challenge, with students working together and supporting one another as they navigated the tricky obstacles. It was a true test of nerves, balance and teamwork, but everyone came out stronger for it, overcoming both physical and mental barriers.

An important stop on the camp was Healesville Sanctuary, where the students gained valuable insights into the importance of Australia’s native ecosystem. They learned about the diverse wildlife and the role each species plays in maintaining the health of our environment. From the majestic koalas to the elusive platypus, the sanctuary offered an experience that emphasized conservation and the protection of Australia’s precious biodiversity.

Overall, the camp not only offered thrilling adventures but also encouraged personal growth, bonding and an appreciation for the natural world. Students returned home with new skills, stronger friendships and cherished memories.
