Year 10 Report

As always, Term 3 has been busy for Year 10 with students choosing and preparing for their Senior Pathways. It is fantastic to see our Year 10 students taking opportunities to maximise their learning and their connection to school.

This week, our Outdoor Education class is camping at Mount Baw Baw, putting into practice the skills and knowledge they have been working on all semester. It’s always a highlight for students to brave the elements and experience our beautiful natural environments (although we may have a few weary students in the latter part of the week when they return after their hiking expedition!)

The Advanced English (HAP) class were privileged to attend a creative writing workshop at the State Library last week and were inspired by the art, architecture, exhibitions and ideas that they experienced there. The quality of writing produced was truly impressive and will kick-start their creative writing folio for Term 4.

Our VPP students have had their third week of Work Experience for the year, with many students taking the opportunity to explore new industries and new workplaces. A few students are also taking up School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships facilitated by the excellent support of the HeadStart program. Students interested in pursuing SBATs are encouraged to visit Careers and make an appointment to see our HeadStart co-ordinator.

Many of our Year 10 students participated in the College Musical, Matilda, and helped put on a great show for our local community. For students who are talented and passionate about the performing arts, including dance, drama, and music, there are opportunities to include these in their VCE studies. Students are welcome to enquire with Careers or the Year 10 Learning Community about this.

Looking forward to next term, we have been given the amazing opportunity to be part of Holmesglen Institute’s Vocational Taster program, which gives the selected students up to seven sessions of learning and exploration in either the Digital, Construction, or Renewables streams, with only a small charge applicable to cover bus transport. Another group of Year 10 students have been invited to Federation University’s Churchill campus for the Fed Uni Experience Day on October 22nd to explore courses and careers in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Sports Science, Psychology, Social Work, IT, Engineering, Business and Nursing. Parents are asked to provide consent on Compass for these activities as soon as possible.

We hope that all our Year 10 families have a safe and enjoyable holiday break and that students come back ready for the challenges of Term 4!
