Bollywood Club

On Saturday 29 August, Nossal High School’s Bollywood Club travelled over an hour to compete at the High School Dance Competition, proudly representing our school on stage.
After months of preparation, the competition brought together countless morning, recess, lunchtime and after-school rehearsals. This was during an especially busy time of the school year, with SACs, City Week, HPAF and many other commitments, making the dedication of our dancers truly impressive.
As the three Bollywood Club leaders, Isabella and Smriti, and myself, we developed a creative concept celebrating the diversity of Indian dance and culture. Our performance featured different styles including Bhangra, Bharatnatyam, Kuthu, Garba and Bollywood dance. With a mixture of four to five different costumes and styles, the stage became a colourful mosaic of Indian culture. By the end of the performance, the rivalry came to an end as all of the dancers came together, united through dance.
Our team included students from Year 9 to Year 12, many of whom would not normally spend time together at school. Through months of rehearsals, we became a close-knit group and had an amazing time working together.
We were extremely proud to receive the Best Creative Concept Award, one of the competition’s most prestigious awards, recognising the creativity and originality behind our performance - the trophy for which will be presented in the front office!!!!!
Although we did not place in the top three, we were incredibly proud of what we achieved. The amazing performances from other schools pushed us to challenge ourselves and continue improving. A huge thank you to every dancer, leader, teacher and supporter who helped make this experience possible.
