Assistant Principal's Report 

Term 3 has been exceptional for our South Oakleigh College community, with students embracing diverse learning experiences and showcasing their talents across multiple platforms. From the amazing school production of the Wizard of Oz to Book week, RoboCup, Model UN and the Senior Boys winning Netball Victoria’s Boys Championship. Well done to all students involved in these activities.  

NAPLAN 2026  A Celebration of Achievement

We are proud to share the outstanding NAPLAN 2026 results achieved by our students at South Oakleigh College. 

Our Year 7 and Year 9 students exceeded the Victorian state average across all five tested domains — Writing, Reading, Spelling, Numeracy, and Grammar & Punctuation.

Year 7

Writing — 80% vs 62% state average

Reading — 69% vs 64%

Spelling — 80% vs 68%

Numeracy — 76% vs 66%

Grammar & Punctuation — 63% vs 55%

Year 9

Writing — 77% vs 62% state average 

Reading — 70% vs 62%

Spelling — 81% vs 69%

Numeracy — 75% vs 62%

Grammar & Punctuation — 59% vs 50%

These results reflect the hard work, persistence and commitment of our students, together with the dedication of our teachers and the support of our families.

We congratulate all our students on this wonderful achievement and thank our staff and families for their continued commitment to learning and educational excellence.

2027 International Travel:  

Places are available for students currently in Years 8-11 in travelling to the USA on Space- X-plore tour next September. The tour is 11 days and includes highlights such as; 

• 3-day NASA Kennedy Space Center program, including: ATX Astronaut Training Experience, and Mars Base 1 Simulations 
• NASA Astronaut Encounter with a real life astronaut 
• Kennedy Space Center bus tour, including: Vehicle Assembly Building, Apollo / Saturn V Center, and Launch Pad 39A 
• Energy in Motion - Physics of Rollercoasters program at Knott's Berry Farm, America's first theme park

The College School Uniform:   

A reminder that from next term, all students are required to wear their Summer uniform. The term 3 break is a great opportunity to try on each of the uniform items just in case you are required to purchase any new pieces from PSW Cheltenham, or second hand items from the sustainableschoolshop.com.au.   

Students are required to wear non-branded tailored trousers or tailored shorts with their academic uniform. Additionally, students are required to wear either College branded PE uniform with our school logo or plain black non-branded sport shorts/ straight legged sport track pants (eg clothing not containing sport logos like adidas, Nike, elite eleven etc). 

Our school Uniform Policy is written and endorsed by our School Council. The expectation is that every student wears their uniform correctly as it is a symbol of belonging to our community and the high expectations held at South Oakleigh College.  

The vast majority of students wear their uniform perfectly every day and it really looks fantastic. It is also a way we show pride in our school and that we are a member of this unique and quite special community.  

SunSmart: As the weather warms up, students are reminded to be sunsmart when outdoors. 

Please ensure your child comes to school prepared with: 

• A hat – particularly for PE and outdoor activities 

Sunscreen – students are encouraged to apply sunscreen before school and reapply throughout the day 

• A reusable water bottle – staying hydrated is especially important during warmer weather 

Being SunSmart helps protect students from UV exposure while keeping them comfortable and hydrated throughout the school day. 

Allergies: 

As Spring sets upon us we acknowledge the rise in pollen in the air and therefore the impact it has on hay fever and other allergies. We ask that students who may be affected be prepared for each day of learning and, if required, consider taking an anti-histamine before school to help with their comfort during the day and their learning in the classroom.  

Student accident insurance/ambulance cover arrangements and private property at school: 

Parents/guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Insurance can be purchased through a commercial insurer.    

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property brought to school and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.   

In conclusion, I wish all our school community a much deserved break, and look forward to see you all in  Term 4.
