End of Term 3 :
Year 10 Work Experience – Stepping into the World of Work
It has been wonderful to see our Year 10 students stepping beyond the classroom and into the world of work this year.
Approximately half of our Year 10 students have already completed, or are scheduled to complete, their work experience placement. Work experience provides a valuable opportunity for students to explore their interests, develop workplace skills and gain firsthand insight into a range of industries and career pathways.
This year, students have participated in an impressive variety of placements and programs. Through John Monash Science School and Monash Tech School, students have explored opportunities in science, technology and innovation. Others have taken part in Gateway LLEN's Reimagining Work Experience Program, which has provided unique experiences with organisations including the RSPCA, Hawthorn Football Club and Victoria Police Academy, among many others.
Students have also engaged with a diverse range of local workplace learning opportunities, including placements with Bunnings, local primary schools, Kingston Libraries and Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary. In addition, many students have independently arranged placements with local businesses, gaining valuable practical experience across a broad range of industries, including hairdressing, pharmacy, fitness, hospitality, real estate and other professional fields.
Work experience is not only about discovering potential career interests; it is also about developing confidence, independence, communication skills and an understanding of workplace expectations. For some students, the experience confirms an existing career goal, while for others it opens the door to opportunities they may never have previously considered.
I encourage all Year 10 students to make the most of this opportunity and approach their placement with curiosity and enthusiasm. You never know what you might discover when you step outside your comfort zone.

Your generosity in sharing your time, expertise and workplaces provides invaluable learning experiences and helps students make meaningful connections between school and the world beyond it.
We are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing more of our Year 10 students take these important first steps towards their future careers.

2026 Worldskills Australia / Regional Competition: Wall and Floor Tiling.
On 25 August 2026 Holmesglen hosted the 2026 Worldskills Australia / Regional Competition: Wall and Floor Tiling.
South Oakleigh College student Ritia T has been selected to compete.
We are very proud of Ritia’s selection for this competition. It is a wonderful recognition of her skills, hard work, and commitment to her trade, and we are excited for her to have the opportunity to showcase her talents at a regional level.
