Welcome to Week 6, Term 3!
Last week we finished off Iron Man. All of the students enjoyed the final battle scene between the Iron Man and the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon! The Space-Bar-Angel Dragon matches the test of strength in fire for two rounds but begs to stop then. The Iron Man wins and the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragin becomes the slave of the Iron Man. We couldn't put the book down!
This week we have started our new novel 'Charlotte's Web', a timeless story that highlights the power of friendship, kindness, and perseverance.
The story follows Wilbur, a small pig who is saved by a caring young girl named Fern. When Wilbur moves to a farm, he becomes worried about his future until he meets Charlotte, a wise and compassionate spider. Determined to help her friend, Charlotte uses her clever web-spinning skills to convince the townspeople that Wilbur is a very special pig. Thanks to Charlotte’s devotion and sacrifice, Wilbur’s life is spared.
Through this novel, students explored important themes including:
- The value of friendship and loyalty
- Compassion and helping others
- Courage during difficult times
- The cycle of life and the importance of remembering those we love
Last week, students focused on reading and understanding analogue clocks. They practised identifying the hour and minute hands, telling time to the hour, half hour, quarter past, and quarter to, and began exploring five-minute intervals around the clock face. Students worked hard to recognise patterns in time and build confidence in reading clocks independently.
How to Practise at Home
Families can support this learning in simple and fun ways:
- Use a real analogue clock and ask your child to tell the time throughout the day.
- Talk about daily routines, such as "What time do we eat dinner?" or "What time do you go to bed?"
- Draw clock faces and challenge your child to show different times.
- Play time games, such as setting a clock to a time and having your child read it aloud.
- Encourage your child to explain how they know the time, identifying what each hand tells us.
Regular practice, even for just a few minutes each day, will help students become more confident and accurate when reading analogue clocks.
In Religion, we have been learning about mission and what it means to be called to help others. Through a Catholic perspective, students have explored how Jesus showed love, compassion, and service to those around Him, and how we are encouraged to follow His example in our daily lives.
Students have discussed the many ways people live out their mission by caring for others, showing kindness, helping those in need, and working to make the world a better place. We have also looked at how members of our Church community respond to God's call through acts of service, generosity, and faith.

Grade 3 Liturgy will be on Monday 14th September, Week 10 at 2.45-3.15pm, all parents welcome.
