Grade 6 viewed and responded to the work of Australian artist Belynda Henry last week. Students starting point was a horizon line that worked as the edge of a lake and then experimented with watercolour markers to create stylised hills along the edge of the lake. This week we will use coloured pencils to sketch in the water itself and to experiment with complementary colours along the top edges of the hills.

Grade 3 have spent some time constructing kittens. Using an upside down cup, foil, newspaper and tape, students created an armature. They then covered the armature with white tissue and PVA before painting a base colour. The tail, eyes, nose, etc, will be added this week.

Grade 2 have begun looking at the work of Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Students always love this unit. After viewing and discussing Hundertwasser's use of contouring, students firstly created a series of line drawings before moving on to contouring paper – similar to the image above.

Grade 1 have started working on their Mary Blair style castles. Blair worked as a concept artist for Disney for many years and created the design concepts for Cinderella, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland. Students will continue building their castle line by line, folding and cutting paper to create halves and quarters as they go. We will begin to add silver details as the castles take shape.
