Grade 4 News

Welcome to Week 6! 

We have recently finished reading Storm Boy in English. While the ending was certainly a sad one, we appreciated the beautiful friendship between a boy and a pelican and explored what makes a story powerful and memorable. The students also completed information reports on the Coorong, using the structure and writing techniques we have been learning in class. They produced some very well-written reports! Our next novel, The Wild Robot, is a wonderful story that will provide plenty of opportunities for discussion and deeper thinking. Alongside our novel study, we will be delving into persuasive writing, learning how to share opinions and support ideas with strong reasons and evidence. 

After finishing our fractions unit in Maths, it would be wonderful to keep the conversation going at home by looking for fractions in real-life situations, such as sharing food, reading measurements or discussing parts of a whole. These everyday opportunities will help consolidate the concepts we have been learning at school. Our next Maths unit will focus on angles, including acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex and revolution angles. 

Having completed our Religion unit, Known, Loved and Called, students have explored what it means to be known and loved by God and to recognise the unique gifts and qualities within themselves. We will now move into Living Jesus' Mission, where students will consider how Jesus' message of love, service, compassion and care for others can be lived out in our everyday lives. 

Our Humanities learning continues with Managing Earth's Resources, as students explore how people use and manage Earth's resources and consider ways we can make responsible choices to care for our environment. 

We are also continuing our Science learning about dinosaurs. Students will investigate their characteristics and habitats and explore how scientists use evidence to learn more about these fascinating creatures. 

As part of Respectful Relationships, we will be exploring Gender and Identity and Celebrating Differences. Students will consider the importance of respecting ourselves and others, recognising that everyone is unique, and valuing the differences that make each person who they are.
