Ciao!
Foundation students are learning vocabulary for different parts of the body in Italian. Thanks to Pinocchio and Geppetto's silly song, they first learnt the vocabulary for parts of the face. We had lots of fun making our own Pinocchio faces and making him tell lies to see his nose grow longer!
We also celebrated Ferragosto, which takes place on 15 August and is a special day when Italians celebrate summer. In Italy, Ferragosto is traditionally a time to spend with family and friends, enjoying outdoor activities, playing water games and having fun together.
Even though it is winter here in Australia, we still managed to celebrate Ferragosto by playing fun games that helped students practise their communication and teamwork skills.
Grade 1 and 2 students have been exploring the topic of Italian food in greater depth. We learnt how a typical Italian breakfast is different from an Australian one and, pretending to be Italian, we role-played conversations about our favourite Italian breakfast foods. Students had lots of fun practising their Italian while discovering more about Italian food and culture!
Grade 3 and 4 students have been exploring new Italian grammar concepts. They are now familiar with the idea that, in Italian, nouns—including objects—can be either masculine or feminine. Building on this knowledge, they are now ready to learn the Italian grammar rules for forming plural nouns. Through fun activities and examples, students are developing their understanding of how Italian grammar works.
Grade 5 and 6 students are learning how to form questions in Italian. They have already learnt the Italian WH question words, which they will now practise through a fun role-play activity. Students will take on the role of an interviewer or a VIP of their choice, preparing and asking questions in Italian as part of their own interview.
