ART Update

FRIDA KAHLO & STAFF
Our Year 4 students have been exploring the inspiring self-portraits of Frida Kahlo and learning how she used colour, detail and nature-inspired backgrounds to express her identity, culture and emotions. Students had fun discovering their teacher’s interests and personality traits while planning their creative portraits. Using a variety of mediums including drawing, watercolours, pastels and collage, students designed vibrant teacher-inspired artworks filled with meaningful details. They practised blending watercolours to create smooth background shades and used pastels to add texture, shading and detail to the face. Using their Chromebooks, students researched leaves, plants and images connected to their teacher’s interests to inspire their backgrounds in the style of Kahlo. One of the most exciting parts of the project was creating Frida Kahlo’s famous unibrow using felt material and carefully placing it onto their portraits to complete their expressive and imaginative artworks.
