The District Swimming Carnival.

We had an enthusiastic team of 24 students who competed against the best in the district on Monday. The bigger schools do dominate, but like all events the competitive spirit and natural talent of TPS still shines bright.

Congratulations to Sophie - Year 4- who grinded out a 50m freestyle and came FIRST by a whisker! Well done to Felix - Year 6 - coming third in the backstroke!

District Cross Country for years 3-6

Thursday 14th May

After trials in April, 8 students from each age group will attend District Cross Country. We gather all the year 3-6s run 1500m. For those who want to train for it - it's 6 laps of the track around Henderson Park.

Thornbury has had a lot of success in this event in the past few years! I am going to set up a RUNNING CLUB, firstly at lunch times and then mornings depending on the numbers. I will make an announcement at school for lunchtime training and then build up a team. I will start the club after this hot month of February has passed.

Gala Day for Year 6s sport

The 5/6 students do sports on Fridays with the term 1 focus being rounders, cricket, frisbee and some other games. The grade 6s will travel to McDonnell Park to compete on Friday the 20th of March. This happens three times in the year and involves a lot of negotiated sports from the students and the district. If you have a particular skill set that you would like to help with in training the students, please get in touch and we can do some masters-sessions!

District Athletics TBC date in late third term.

This year the 3/4 cohort are a strong group athletically and I think it's going to be a good year in many of the running and field events; Relays, Discuss, Shot Putt, Sprints, Distance races, High jump, Long jump, Triple jump. All the children from grades 3 and up can have a try at the events to qualify to attend and compete. I will start testing for some events a little earlier given the restrictions in the yard i.e. High Jump might be completed a little earlier.

Rugby Gala day teams.

TBC. The3 plan is to make up several teams to represent TPS .

Our Sports Ambassadors are keen to have some tournaments this year such as Soccer and GaGa. Also; From week 5 - next week, they will open the sports shed and hand out equipment for borrowing during recess and lunch.

More Announcements from the ambassadors coming soon, regarding the FUN RUN, and course, if any parents/carers have a particular skill they would like to share the students, please get in touch; The students love having lessons from experts!
