Gardening

Kii everyone
We've had a great start to gardening in term 1 with students in F-2 and 2/3S.
Children have been fantastic at discussing and setting expecting around how we can care for the garden, ourselves, and each other.
After a long dry Summer, we have been collecting and saving seeds, watering, digging, exploring, engaging in nature crafts, and sowing seeds ready to plant out once the weather cools down. Many students have made origami seed packets filled with seeds from our garden (mostly Calendula)
We have discovered and observed lots of invertebrates and discussed ethics around caring for them and their habitats.
We have started learning about compost - how we can help care for soil, recycle food waste, and separate rubbish and recycling.
Most sessions, we've been harvesting fresh cucumbers to share. We've also tasted iced lemon verbena tea - it's wonderful to see many students trying and enjoying something new!
If you would like to be involved in the gardening program, please reach out to Emily via the office. Some of the ways you can get involved are:
Volunteer during gardening sessions on a Thursday or Friday
Adopt a spot in the school to care for
Join a group such as Building and Grounds committee or the chook care group
Help organise / come along to a working bee
Help run a plant stall at community events
Donate excess seedlings
- Or share ideas and skills of your own!
