School Sports News

Volleyball

On Thursday 23 May, our school hosted the Year 9 and 10 Volleyball Statewide Schools Competition.

It was an exciting day of competition, and our students represented the school brilliantly.

Congratulations to our boys’ team for securing third place overall, with our girls' team just missing out in the state final by four points to Unley.

Australian Rules Football

On Wednesday 22 May, our year 10-12 boys competed in the School Sport SA Statewide School knockout football competition, playing two games at home against Woodcroft College and Wirreanda Secondary School.

Both games were well contested. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in notching up a win. We came very close against Woodcroft where we led until the last 2 minutes of the game.

Our young men demonstrated excellent skills and sportsmanship all day and we are very proud of their efforts.

Best players across the day

Jack J

Blake M

Kody B

Aiden C

Liam A

A big thank you to Happy Valley Football Club for their support on the day with the use of their clubrooms and facilities.

Badminton

On Friday 24 May, several students travelled to Salisbury High School to compete in the Sports SA Year 10-12 Badminton competition.

In the division 1 Boys Leon B, Gabriel S Aston J and Ben W finished victors against some strong competition, dropping only two games all day.

Priya V, Leah T, Isabel McK and Ameena A were a creditable 2nd in the Division 1 girls, losing only one match throughout the entire competition.

Tenzin S, Lucas T, Archie C and Derick R finished in fourth place in the Division 2 Boys division whilst Naoki B, George P, Daniel W, Kosei K and Lucas R showed great improvement as the day progressed to finish 5th in the same division.

Despite being down one player the team of Becky D, Zoe H and Chrisa J finish fourth in the girls Pool B competition.

These good results were the direct result of all these students training tirelessly throughout term 1 and 2 up to twice per week.

Netball Carnival at Victor Harbour

We are so proud of the two-year 7/8 girls' netball teams, that conquered the wet and cold conditions at Victor Harbour on Thursday 30 May.

The year 7’s worked hard against schools such as Mount Compass, Willunga and Eastern Fleurieu. Winning their last two games against Investigators and Willunga. Whereas the Year 8’s won two games against Willunga and Encounter, with tough battles between Victor Harbour, Investigator and Eastern Fleurieu.

The entire squad of girls worked together, changing positions, playing their best and supporting one another, especially with the supply of sugared treats throughout the day.

A big thank you to Simone Little (year 9IG2) for coaching the year 7’s and Chloe Raftery (year 9IG2) for Umpiring around 7 games across the divisions.

Thank you to Briony our sports coordinator for organising the event and confidently driving the bus. Our wonderful ex-student doing her final placement as a student teacher Alisha Williams from Flinders University did an amazing job supporting the year 8’s and giving great advice on her birthday.

These girls represented our school with pride, well done.

Year 7/8 Basketball - Boys

On Thursday 30 May the year 7/8 Boys Basketball team ventured to Wirreanda Secondary School for the Statewide Knockout Competition, led by student coaches Sebi E. and Hudsen M.

Students played in two full time games against Heathfield High School and Wirreanda Secondary School. The first game saw us competing against a very tall and strong Heathfield team. Our players worked hard in finding gaps in the defence to get scores where they could, with some key baskets made by Rami D. and Ryder M., however Heathfield were too strong and took the win.

Our second game saw us playing against a better matched team in Wirreanda Secondary School. Our defensive structure improved significantly with excellent work from Ryder M., Angus W., Hamo K. and Georgin S. stopping some key baskets. The scoring was shared among the team well. While victory went to Wirreanda, it was clear that this team will be very exciting to watch in the coming years.

School Sport SA - Cross Country Championships

On Thursday 6 June, a small group of Aberfoyle Park High School students attended the School Sport SA Cross Country Championships at Oakbank Racecourse.

We were proudly represented by Hannah S., Erin B., Zack B., Max D., Jack G., Flynn H., Aden H., Shui M., Ryunosuke M., Muna O. and Harry P., who ran between 3km and 5km.

Noteworthy performances at the statewide event came from Hannah S. who crossed the line in 13th place in the 16-year girls 4km, Max D. who finished 17th in the 12-year-old boys 3km race and international students Shui M. and Ryunosuki who finished 23rd and 33rd in the Open girls 4km and 16-year boys 5km races respectively.

All runners gave it their best in cool, slippery conditions, and the team spirit was on display, as runners encouraged other Aberfoyle Park High School students after finishing themselves.

Year 11 & 12 Boys Soccer

On Thursday 13 June, our Year 11/12 boys' soccer team competed at Karinya Reserve in the first state KO round. They went down to Hallet Cove in the first game but won against Tatachilla 3-1 in the second.

Unfortunately, Tatachilla went through on goal difference having beat Hallet Cove 4-1 in the game before. Still a great day out and a huge effort by our boys. They all represented the school well and were commended by the referee on their sportsmanship.
