Year 10 Work Experience

In Week 3 of Term 2, it was fantastic to see over 160+ Aberfoyle Park High School Year 10 students embark on a week-long work experience adventure.

Students had been preparing for a number of weeks as part of their Stage 1 Personal Learning Plan subject. In class, students investigated aspects of chosen careers and discussed what a ‘day in the life’ would like in their industry of interest. They used this to deconstruct what capabilities and skills they individually have which align to success in the role and how they could further develop any areas for improvement through a week of immersion.

Ultimately students ventured out with great success, exploring a diverse range of roles/industries including law, architecture, building and construction, aged care, hospitality, allied health, engineering, music, primary schools/education, and various retail outlets.

During this invaluable experience, students practiced and further developed a sense of agency, gaining a variety of practical work ready skills such as communication, working independently and in teams, problem-solving and time management.

The hands-on learning and real-world exposure provided by work experience were immensely meaningful, giving students a glimpse into potential career paths and helping them develop a deeper understanding of the world of work. This opportunity was not only enriching for students’ personal growth. It was essential in preparing them for future success in their chosen fields.
