Marlin Coast Secondary School Carnival

Congratulations to our junior and senior representative netball teams who competed in the Marlin Coast Secondary School Carnival on Friday 27th August. Both the Yr 10-12 team and Yr 8-9 team finished top of their divisions. The senior team came away with 1st place, the Yr 8-9 team finished 2nd overall, and the Yr 7 team finished 3rd out of 10 teams. Well done all. Thank you to the staff and parents who assisted throughout the day.

Cairns Netball 14U SMCC White

This year, St Mary’s entered three teams into the local netball competition. After a rigorous 15-round season, SMCC White finished minor Premiers in the 14C division, going through undefeated. The team held together strong in the semi-finals to move straight into the Grand Final with a 30 -18 win over their rivals. 

On Tuesday 14th September, the team faced off against Cyclones in a hard-fought Grand Final. From the starting whistle the girls showed they were eager taking an early lead, but nerves got the better of them and they found themselves down by 5 during the second quarter. The team dug deep to end the half down by 3. 

A fantastic defensive half had the girls trailing by 1 at the end of three-quarter time. The team fought hard and showed their St Mary’s spirit in the last quarter, holding their opposition to just 2 goals.

They played a strong game to outlast their rivals and take the grand final with a well-earned 28 - 21 win.

Congratulations to SMCC White who ended the season undefeated.
