Assistant Principal Report - Junior School

Mrs June Sainsbery

The second half of Term four is always a busy time of year.  Students are finalising assessments, confirming their electives (if applicable), and getting ready for Rollover.  There are many adjustments to contend with – new classes, new spaces, and, this year, a change in the structure of our day from 6 periods to 4 periods.  Students have navigated all these challenges exceptionally well.  This helps to build their resilience and confidence.  Staff are busy getting ready to move into the new building.  We are very excited to be working with our 2023 Year 7 and 8 students, in the new space next year.

I would like to congratulate the Year 8 students who attended the ‘Positive Citizen’ excursion that took place on Thursday 8th December.  Mr Murray accompanied 20 students on an excursion to celebrate the consistent way in which these students have demonstrated the Parkdale values. The students enjoyed a movie, laser tag and bowling.  The following students, nominated by their teachers, attended:  Abigail ARCULUS, Lucinda AHSLEY, Juliana BAL, Emma BATES, Lok Yi CHAN, Grace CHIAPPETTA, Jack CON, Jemma FLEMING, Matilda GARNETT, Millie HARRIS-MACDONALD, James HEPWORTH, Laia PEACE, Mia SARDELLIS, Mietta SCHERWINSKI, Maddison STEWART, William SUROWIECKI, Yianni TASSAKOS, William TUSKIN, Amelia WATTERSON and Myles WINDSOR.

Thanks to all the students who applied for a leadership position for next year.  The process is quite lengthy and involves an application, interview, and a presentation to their peers.  All candidates performed very well.  I am pleased to announce the following students have been selected for Junior School leadership positions for 2023:

Junior School Captains – Emma BATES and Tyson BRADLEY

Junior School Vice-Captains – Hannah DOWNWARD and Mia SARDELLIS

Junior School Performing Arts Captain – Georgie HENRY

Junior School Performing Arts Vice-Captain – Milla BRUCE

In relation to uniform, the new jacket will be available for purchase from Bob Stewart in the New Year. There may be some stock available from the week beginning 19th December (ring first to check).  The uniform shop is closed from 23rd December and will reopen on 3rd January.  Many parents will be purchasing new school shoes in January.  Please note that students are expected to be wearing standard black leather polishable lace-up school shoes (runner style sports shoes, skate shoes, T-bar, other styles of buckle up shoes, slip on-dress shoes or platform shoes are not acceptable).

I hope all students, staff and their families have a relaxing and safe Christmas and New Year and am looking forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday 31st January.
