Assistant Principal Report Senior School

By Michael Tuck

It certainly has been an exciting finish to the year with year 10/11 exams, Rollover, Valedictory, Year 10 formal, Celebration of Student Achievement night and VCE results being released.

Rollover progressed smoothly, with students making a positive start to 2023 classes.  This is particularly important for VCE classes, allowing classes to get a head start on working through content.  It also allows some work to be set for the summer break, such as reading novels and texts.  It is important that students complete these tasks so they begin the year in the best possible way.

Valedictory dinner, held at Caulfield Racecourse, was a wonderful night to mark the milestone of secondary school completion for our VCE and VCAL students.  It was great for parents, staff and students to come together one final time as a cohort to celebrate together.  My thanks to the year 12 team and staff who contributed to making the night such a success.

Year 10 formal was held at Chelsea Town Hall Friday 9th December.  Our year 10 students were certainly in the party mood, with the dance floor getting a lot of use.  There was clearly a lot of effort put into their formal attire, with everyone dressed to impress.  Thank you to the Year 10 team for organising a fun and memorable event.

Our class of 2022 also received their final results Monday 12th December.  Firstly, congratulations to Samantha Butel, our 2022 college Dux. Samantha achieved an incredible ATAR of 99.05.  This places her in the top 0.95% of students in the state.  Well done Samantha on a well-deserved achievement.

From a cohort perspective, we are proud of all of our students.  While the final number isn’t the only thing to value, the following results indicate the aspiration, resilience and work ethic of our student body.

- Median ATAR 70.05, with over 50% students ranked inside the top 30% of the state.

- 13% of students with an ATAR over 90

- 31.5% of students with an ATAR over 80.

- Median study score of 30

- 6.8% of the scores 40+, placing those students in the top 9% of the state in those subjects.

Finally, as the year ends, I hope everyone is able to enjoy a restful and pleasant holiday period.  It is important to take time to recharge and connect with friends and family and to prepare for the following year.  Students are reminded to give themselves plenty of time to get organised for 2023, including ensuring they have all correct uniform items (especially correct school shoes and the trousers) to avoid negative interactions at the beginning year.  Being prepared means the year will get off to a positive start and we are able to focus on teaching and learning as quickly as possible.  Have a great break everyone, we are looking forward to working with you all again in 2023.
