Library News

This term the library staff are working to keep students reading. The library has received a number of new books that are ready for borrowing off the shelves, some of these are pictured. Although students are unable to attend the library currently any student wanting to borrow a book can make a loan request either via email to Miss Klein or through the request slip system outside the library. Miss Klein will deliver available books to students the following day the request is made.

To check the availability of books students can login to the school Oliver Library app via the student portal and search for titles. Students can also continue to borrow eBooks through the Wheelers School library platform

https://henrykendah.eplatform.co/ by using their school login details.

New titles that have been added to the eBook platform this November include:

  • Avatar (Last Airbender) by Bryan Konietzko
  • Collins 2022 Guide to the Night Sky
  • Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
  • The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
  • Infinity Son by Adam Silvera
  • Nothing Ever Happens Here by Sarah Hagger-Holt

During October the library has been celebrating International Library Month by spotlighting Fairy Tales and Folktales as well as highlighting the horror genre in honour of Halloween. A number of tales of the spooky, supernatural and scary were on display from the classic tales of R L Stine, to the modern stories of James Dawson and Justina Ireland.

Miss Klein is continuing to host the Creative Writing Club through Google Classroom. A new writing prompt is added each Friday. Students wishing to undertake the NaNoWriMo 2021 November writing challenge can find more information about the challenge in the Google Classroom or by emailing Miss Klein. The Somerset Novella Competition is open for student entries and closes on December 3rd.
