TAS/VET News

It’s so wonderful being back at school with our classes. Our classes have been very busy since returning to school especially with the practical component of our courses. In Week 4 the Food Technology and Hospitality classes all made some very spooky Halloween treats! As Christmas approaches our kitchens will be buzzing with the excitement of making a variety of Christmas treats!

Our Stage 4 Technology Mandatory classes will be rotating around different teachers for the remainder of Term 4 to experience a variety of practical activities ranging from learning how to marble fabric, to producing a small wooden project, having a go at coding and also making some very tasty treats in the kitchens.

Students were able to choose a variety of different tasks showing off their cooking, engineering and woodwork skills.

Stage 4 Technology Mandatory Activities

Our Year 11 classes have made a very smooth transition to their HSC year. The Society and Culture class and the Industrial Technology Timber class have now started the process for their major works. They have been extremely diligent in setting up solid foundations of what we hope will be a very successful year. We are really looking forward to seeing an amazing array of projects produced by our Year 12 students.

We said goodbye to our Year 12 classes last week and we wish them the very best for their upcoming exams. We are so proud of the resilience and fortitude displayed by our students. At present we are finalising the completed competencies for our VET students.

Because of lockdown the Year 11 VET classes have not been able to go to Work Placement this year. They will have the opportunity to complete this early next year. Because of Covid the students in the 2021-2022 cohort only need to complete 35 hours of Work Placement instead of the usual 70 hours. Our Stage 5 Hospitality students will be awarded the competencies that they have been able to complete in the time they are back at school this term. During lockdown many of our students used this time to be very creative and they produced some fantastic and innovative projects. We are so proud of their efforts.

Year 10 IST Multimedia

The Year 10 IST Multimedia class at the end of last term and beginning of Term 4, were designing and creating multimedia projects. Students completed a range of projects from videos to web pages. With a range of topics, including toasters, the life of a dog and Ghosts!

This term we say goodbye for now to one of our teachers, Mrs Natalie Pratt. Mrs Pratt and her husband will be travelling around Australia in 2022. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the TAS and VET faculties to thank her for the outstanding contribution she has made to our two faculties, we will miss her very much. We wish them a very safe and enjoyable trip and we cannot wait to hear about their adventures upon their return.
