MEDIA, DRAMA & ARTS

BOX HILL HIGH SCHOOL COLLABORATION
We would like to thank Box Hill High School and their Media teachers for their generous donation of media equipment to support our Media Studies program.
The donation included two DSLR cameras, one of which was still brand new in its original packaging. This equipment will provide students with valuable opportunities to further develop their film and photography media production skills.
On behalf of our Media students and staff, thank you to Box Hill High School for your generosity and support of Media education.
YEARS 7, 9 AND 10 MEDIA STUDIES WRAP UP
Our Year 7, 9 and 10 Media Studies students have successfully completed their Semester 1 electives and are now preparing to explore new subjects.
In Year 7, students designed their own mini-magazines, applying media codes and conventions to engage target audiences on topics of personal interest, including gaming, sport, animals and music. To conclude the semester, students created photographic stories, using a range of camera techniques and conventions they had learned throughout the course.
Year 9 students explored the process of film production by planning, filming, acting in and editing their own short films. They also designed film posters to promote their productions and developed an understanding of how media codes, conventions, cinematic techniques and editing can be used to engage audiences.
In Year 10, students investigated film analysis, photography and film production in preparation for future VCE Media Studies pathways. Students explored how media codes and conventions are used to create meaning, while developing their analytical writing skills through the study of films and short films. Following their examinations, students voted on what they would like to study for the remainder of the elective, choosing to further investigate film texts and how directors use media codes and conventions to tell engaging stories. Students also enjoyed using the new Media Arts building, including its blackout curtains, creating an authentic cinema-style viewing experience.
We congratulate all students on their efforts throughout the semester and are excited to welcome the next group of Year 7, 9 and 10 students who will be experiencing Media Studies in Semester 2.

Wakakirri Rehearsals Term 2:
Our Wakakirri rehearsals throughout Term 2 have been incredibly productive, and the students have done a fantastic job demonstrating commitment, enthusiasm, and teamwork each week. They have worked hard to learn choreography, develop their performance skills, and bring our story to life. A special thank you goes to Maddie, who has been our choreographer this term. She has been amazing in guiding and supporting our students, helping them build confidence and create a polished and engaging performance.
We are excited to showcase all of the students’ hard work when we perform on Wednesday 5th August at the Clocktower Theatre in Moonee Ponds. It will be a wonderful event, and we are looking forward to sharing our performance with family and friends.
Tickets for the performance went on sale on Tuesday 23 June https://www.wakakirri.com/tickets/. We encourage families to secure their seats early to support our talented students and celebrate their achievements.
We are so proud of these students and what they have achieved throughout Term 2! Well done Team!
Thank you as always for your support.
Louise Mercer
Wakakirri Director
