CAREERS AND PATHWAYS

Year 10 Work Experience – Learning Beyond the Classroom
During Week 8 of this term, our first group of Year 10 students stepped beyond the classroom and into the workplace as part of their Work Experience program.
Students were given the opportunity to explore a wide range of industries, including health, construction, education, automotive, hospitality, retail, trades, business, community services and many more. Throughout the week, they developed valuable employability skills such as communication, teamwork, initiative, problem-solving, professionalism and time management while gaining firsthand insight into the world of work.
For many students, Work Experience confirmed career interests and helped shape future pathway decisions. Others discovered new industries they had never previously considered, highlighting the importance of experiencing different workplaces before making senior secondary subject and career choices.
A huge thank you goes to the many local businesses, organisations and employers who generously welcomed our students, mentored them throughout the week and provided meaningful learning opportunities. We also thank our families for supporting students to prepare for and participate in this valuable program.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 10 students represented Mickleham Secondary College. The positive feedback received from employers regarding students' enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to learn was a credit to both the students and our school community.
We look forward to seeing our Semester 2 Work Related Skills (WRS) students undertake their Work Experience in Term 3, Week 10 (14th to 18th September) and continue building the skills, confidence and connections that will support their future pathways.
