From the Year 2 Classroom

Week 7 is here, and spring is almost upon us! We’re all looking forward to warmer, sunnier days as the weather begins to brighten. 

With the warmer weather arriving, this is a reminder that all students should now be wearing their school hats each day. If you haven’t already sent your child’s hat to school, please do so as soon as possible. 

We have a busy and exciting few weeks ahead to finish the term, with lots of wonderful school events to look forward too! 

Week 7 (This Week) 

Book Week Parade – Friday 28th August 

Our annual Book Week Parade will begin at 9:00 am on the basketball court. We would love to see as many families as possible come along and join in the fun as we celebrate the joy of reading and all things books! 

Week 8 

*Learning Conversations – Tuesday 1st & Wednesday 2nd September 

If you haven’t already booked your Learning Conversation, please do so as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting with all families to celebrate your child’s learning and discuss their progress. 

*Father’s Day Stall- Wednesday 2nd September- 

Students can bring money to purchase something for their Dad’s or special male figures in their life. 

*Father’s Day Celebration – Friday 4th September 

Our Father’s Day Liturgy, morning tea, and classroom activities will begin at 10:00 am. We warmly invite all dads, grandfathers, and special father figures to join us for this special celebration.

Week 9 

* Thursday 10th September: Athletics Carnival. 

* Friday 11th September: R U OK? Day. 

Week 10 

*Wednesday 16th September: Excursion to Twisted Science.

 Be at school by 8.15am please. 

*Friday 18th September: Footy Colours Day and the last day of Term 3. 

School will finish early at 2:15 pm. 

It’s shaping up to be a fun and memorable end to the term.  

Last week we acknowledged Bullying No Way Week, Australia's leading bullying prevention initiative that brings schools and communities together to promote respect, inclusion, and belonging. The 2026 theme, "Small Acts, Big Impact," reminds us that simple actions such as showing kindness, including others, and speaking up can make a significant difference in preventing bullying and creating safe, supportive learning environments. Throughout the week we completed some artwork showing acts of kindness that we can do as well as a handprint to show that we put a STOP to bullying. The students were very engaged throughout these activities and generated some fabulous discussion around this topic.  

Literacy 

In Literacy, we have been exploring the reading strategy Finding the Main Idea and Summarising in Non-Fiction Texts. Students have used three handy hints to help us find the main idea. They are: Title and Picture, First and Last Sentence and Repeated Words.  

In Writing and Storybook, we listened to the True Story of The Three Little Pigs and then we wrote a letter to the Police Officers, from the pig’s perspective, persuading them as to why he shouldn’t be let out of jail. We then wrote a response from the wolf, as to why he should be let out. We have begun a Fractured Fairytale about the Three Little Pigs, changing parts of it, but following the original storyline. We have had so much fun doing this.   

In Spelling, we have been learning to spell words that end with a consonant plus ‘le’ as well as contractions. Our tricky words are though, can’t, don’t, couldn’t and around. 

Mathematics 

In Mathematics, we are finishing off our unit on 2D and 3D shapes and their features. Next week we begin the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 

Religion 

In Religion, we are beginning a new topic about God’s Creation. In this unit, we will explore our natural world and how we care for it.  

Inquiry 

In Inquiry, we have enjoyed continuing to learn more about the bridge. We sketched it on Friday with charcoal. We were impressed with our sketching!!! 

We thank-you for your support with encouraging your child to leave their squishes at home. This makes our lives a lot easier!
