From the Year Prep Classroom

We can't believe how quickly the term is going! The students are doing an amazing job, and we hope they are coming home and telling you all about their new learning.

This week, we are super excited for Book Week. The parade will be held on Friday at 9:00 am on the basketball court (weather permitting). We hope to see you there!

Literacy

We have finally learned all the letters of the alphabet, as well as some common digraphs such as sh, ch, and ck. We have also learned what the vowels are and the short sound they make.  We are noticing vowels in words and exploring the different sounds they can make, not just their short sounds (such as in our tricky words). Encouraging your child to look at signs and posters when you're out and about is a great way to keep this learning fresh in their minds.

Mathematics

This week, we will finish our unit on measurement with some work on measuring, scales, and capacity. We will explore hefting, and how to use a set of scales to compare weights. We will also compare capacity as well as looking at full, half full and empty.  Next week, we will begin learning about sharing and grouping. We will investigate how a collection can be equally shared between two or three groups.

Book Week Fun!

What a fun day we had celebrating Book Week! Today, we got to bring our special teddies along to enjoy some reading together. We loved sharing stories with our cuddly friends and even enjoyed a delicious teddy bear biscuit! We also started our morning with some mindfulness and meditation alongside our teddies, which was a lov! ely way to begin the day. It was such a fun and memorable day filled with books, teddies, smiles and lots of laughter

Inquiry

Mrs Seal has been leading the students in exploring all things old and new. Last week they learned about different transportation. This week they will dive into communication differences. Discussing with your child what communication or transportation was like when you were their age or when your parents were their age is a great way to consolidate this learning. We are all looking forward to our excursion to Beechworth on 17th September to further explore this interesting topic.

Religion

Our Religion unit, Caring for Creation, has had us looking at God's creation and how we can care for it. We have been noticing the beauty in our world and discussing the small things we can do to make a positive difference.

Reminders

Learning Conversations next week Tues/ Wed

We hope you have booked in for a Learning Conversation next week. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress, discuss their learning goals, and work together as we continue our learning journey for the remainder of the year. We look forward to seeing you!

Wearing Hats

Hats are now compulsory for the rest of the term. No Hat, No Play is our recess and lunch policy. Please ensure your child has their hat at school each day.

Reading

Readers are exchanged every Friday. Please ensure your child is practising their reading and tricky words at least four nights a week. We love to see all blue reading satchels returned on Fridays.
