From the Year 6 Classroom
It has been another busy and exciting few weeks in Year 6!
English: We are continuing to enjoy our class novel Can You See Me? by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. The novel provides an authentic insight into the experiences of an autistic student, allowing students to develop their understanding of autism and appreciate the different ways people experience the world. We have had some wonderful and thoughtful class discussions as we explored the characters, their experiences and the importance of inclusion and empathy.
Students have also begun their persuasive writing unit. They are writing a persuasive letter to Mr Mullavary, presenting their arguments about the benefits of having therapy dogs in our school. We have been working on developing strong arguments, supporting ideas with evidence and using persuasive language to convince our audience.
Numeracy: Students have been experiencing lots of success with our current unit on angles. They have been learning to identify and calculate complementary and supplementary angles and have enjoyed applying their knowledge to a range of challenging problems. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow!
In other news, we hope our Year 5 and 6 students participating in Write a Book in a Day have a fabulous time and enjoy the opportunity to work collaboratively to create their very own book.
We are also looking forward to our upcoming school excursion to Beechworth Honey. Students will need to bring a packed lunch and are welcome to wear their sports uniform. Students may also bring money if they would like to make a purchase at the Beechworth Sweet Shop.
Excitement is certainly building around our Book Week Parade next Friday, with students already planning and preparing their wonderful costumes. We can't wait to see everyone's creative ideas!
Last week, some students enjoyed the opportunity to attend a science session at the College, where they participated in some engaging and hands-on learning experiences. Other classes will have the opportunity to attend these sessions over the coming weeks.
Finally, a reminder that our Father's Day Stall is next Wednesday. We will also celebrate Father's Day with a special liturgy, followed by a Father's Day activity in the classroom. We look forward to celebrating the special men and father figures in our students' lives.
