Remembrance Day – Poppy Appeal Fundraising

🌺 Remembrance Day – Poppy Appeal Fundraising

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

In the lead-up to Remembrance Day, Le Page Primary School will be supporting the Poppy Appeal in partnership with Bentleigh/Cheltenham RSL.

The Poppy Appeal raises funds to support veterans, current serving personnel and their families. By purchasing a poppy or another remembrance item, our school community can show its gratitude and help support those who have served our country.

A range of items will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $2 to $10. Items include poppies and other remembrance merchandise.

Our wonderful Year 5/6  Leaders will visit classrooms daily with the Poppy Appeal box, giving students and staff the opportunity to purchase an item. Items will also be available to purchase from the Front Office at any time throughout the school day running up until 11/11/26.

We encourage our Le Page community to get involved and support this meaningful cause as we take time to remember and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served.

Lest we forget. ❤️

Thunderstorm asthma – be prepared this pollen season ⛈️

Gallery Image

Grass pollen season in Victoria usually runs from October to December. During this time, asthma and hay fever symptoms can get worse. There is also an increased risk of thunderstorm asthma.

Ten years ago, Melbourne experienced the largest thunderstorm asthma event in the world. Thunderstorm asthma can be sudden and serious. It can be life-threatening, especially if a person’s asthma or hay fever is not well controlled.

Le Page PS will have measures to keep our school community safe.

Many of our staff are trained in asthma first aid. We will monitor VicEmergency for thunderstorm asthma warnings. When needed, we will keep students indoors if the weather forecast shows a higher risk.

Managing asthma and allergies matters. During this pollen season, there are some things you can do to protect yourself and your family:

  • If your child has ever had asthma, talk to your doctor about your Asthma Action Plan and to make sure symptoms are well controlled.
  • If your child has hay fever, talk to your pharmacist or doctor about a hay fever plan and check if you need an asthma reliever puffer.
  • If your child has cough or wheeze with hay fever, talk to your doctor to make sure they don’t also have asthma.
  • Take asthma medication as directed by your doctor, as the good control of symptoms can prevent thunderstorm asthma.
  • Follow the VicEmergency website or app. Where possible, avoid being outside during thunderstorms – especially during the winds that come before the storm. Go inside and close your doors and windows. If you have your air conditioning on, turn it to ‘recirculate’.
  • Know asthma first aid. If you are not sure if someone is having an asthma attack, you can still use a blue asthma reliever puffer.

Need Help with School Uniforms or Essential School Items?

Gallery Image

At Le Page Primary School, we understand that families can sometimes face financial challenges. We want to ensure that every student can attend school feeling comfortable, confident and ready to learn.

Through State Schools' Relief (SSR), assistance may be available for families experiencing financial hardship or unexpected circumstances. Support can include essential school items such as:

  • School polo shirts and jumpers
  • Pants, shorts and dresses
  • School shoes
  • Hats
  • Socks and underwear
  • School bags
  • Swimwear
  • Other educational essentials where required

State Schools' Relief supports Victorian government school students whose families may be experiencing financial difficulties due to circumstances such as unemployment, illness, family crisis, bereavement, homelessness, domestic violence, natural disasters, or other significant hardships. Assistance is provided confidentially and on a needs basis through the school.

In some circumstances, State Schools' Relief may also be able to assist eligible students with optical support through glasses vouchers, helping families access prescription glasses where required.

If you feel your family may benefit from this support, please contact Brooke Brooke.Sheppard@education.vic.gov.au or in the school office for a confidential conversation. All enquiries are treated with sensitivity and discretion, and we are happy to discuss the options available and assist with any applications.

At Le Page Primary School, we believe every child deserves access to the items they need to fully participate in school life. If you need support, please reach out – we are here to help.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s financial circumstances and their outcomes.

CAMPS, SPORTS and EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works while sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are a part of a healthy curriculum.

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions, camps and sporting activities.

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or  support an out of home care student you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid directly to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

The annual CSEF amount per student is $400 for all school students.

Late Arrivals & Early Departures

Gallery Image

Can we kindly ask all parents to please come through the front office if your child is late to school. Students must present to the office with a parent to be signed in via the Compass Kiosk to receive a late pass to give to their teacher.

Sometimes students need to be picked up early for an appointment. Students who need to be dismissed early must be picked up from the office. We will call down to your child's class and call them to the office to be signed out.

It is important for our school to have an updated copy of an Asthma Action Plan, Anaphylaxis and/or Allergy Plan for the health and wellbeing of your child and to adhere to our school policies. These forms need updating yearly to comply with our management policy.

To help us complete this process, it would be appreciated if you could please arrange to have the form/s completed. Please note your doctor needs to prepare and sign this form.

It is also important that you come past the front office to replace any medication that is out of date or no longer needed.  If your child does not already have medication at the office and needs it, please provide all medications with names to the office ASAP.

If you have any questions, or would like a copy of the forms please contact the front office

Thank you for your help in managing this.
