Tremendous 3

Term 4 Week 4
Year 3 Newsletter
Welcome to Week 2 of Term 4!
Our camp at Woorabinda was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with the natural environment, explore their surroundings and develop a deeper understanding of their place within the world. Throughout the experience, students were encouraged to take the lead in their own learning, following their interests and investigating topics such as sustainability, local flora and fauna, the marine environment and caring for our natural surroundings.
Students also explored the importance of farms and how we can care for the environment while using the land responsibly. Through a range of exciting outdoor adventures, including kayaking, archery, orienteering, night walks and challenging themselves on high ropes and rock climbing activities, students developed their confidence, independence, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
It was fantastic to see students embracing new challenges, supporting one another and building meaningful connections with both nature and their peers. Woorabinda provided a memorable experience filled with adventure, discovery and opportunities for personal growth!
Literacy:
In Literacy, students have been putting their persuasive writing skills into practice by creating their own independent persuasive posters. They are using catchy titles, interesting information and engaging images to capture their audience’s attention and strengthen their arguments. Students are working hard to organise their ideas and use persuasive techniques to clearly communicate their point of view and convince their audience.

They have also begun learning about probability, investigating the likelihood of different events occurring and using words such as impossible, unlikely, likely and certain to describe the chance of an outcome. Students are developing their mathematical reasoning by making predictions, explaining their thinking and exploring how we use these concepts in everyday life.

Science
In Science, students will be becoming Earth Detectives, investigating the secrets of our planet and discovering what rocks, minerals, soils and fossils can teach us about the past. They will explore the difference between body and trace fossils, learn how fossils help palaeontologists understand extinct animals, and investigate how Earth's environments have changed over time. Students will also discover what geologists do and why their work is important, examine the properties and everyday uses of different rocks and minerals, and compare soil types by looking at their appearance, texture and how water moves through them.
To showcase their learning, students will create an engaging Science poster titled “Earth Detectives: Uncovering the Secrets of the Past!” They will use scientific vocabulary, labelled diagrams, illustrations and interesting facts to explain their discoveries. This project will provide a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate their scientific understanding, creativity and growing knowledge of the incredible world beneath our feet.
