We have had a very busy couple of weeks. See below for the details.
As always, the Prep team is grateful for your support.
Term 4 is when hats are compulsory for outside play.
Please be sure to name your child's hat!

Biodiversity Incursion
The biodiversity incursion was an amazing experience for everyone involved. We were visited by some people from our community that have a passion for all the wonderful plants and animals we have in our local areas. As part of this, they brought with them lots of plants that the Preps got an opportunity to plant in the Le Page garden spaces. Over time, these plants will grow and attract loads of pollinators to the area. It also helps to maintain bigger, better green spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Grandparents afternoon
Our grandparents afternoon last Friday 23rd of October was a great success! We were so excited to see so many grandparents and other family members in attendance. The BER/Library area was packed out for our choir performance and the students loved having you all there. The Prep classroom Q&A was good fun, too. Thanks for coming and supporting our students!
What we are learning!
Maths
Last week in Maths the students built the knowledge and understanding of Location. This was a short, sharp unit that looked more closely at direction and directional language. Throughout our lessons, students were using directional language to find or guide objects around grids. We also played some fun games like Snakes and Ladders! It was great to see everyone getting involved and using the language. Some good examples of the language are words like forwards, backwards, left, right, beneath and beside.
This week in week 4 we have started another unit - Ordinal Numbers. Another great opportunity for our students to build their knowledge and understanding of the sequence of numbers and the language that goes with them.
Practice counting at home and using the language of ordinal numbers to help support the Preps.
For example - finding the missing number: 1, 2, 3, 4, _, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
The missing number is 5. It is the 5th number in our sequence. Other good ways to support are dates on a calendar or houses in your street. Which house in the street are you?
Inquiry
Our Inquiry unit is going well this term. Students have shown great enjoyment while learning about the weather. We have discovered that there are lots of varieties in the weather we experience and it has a direct influence on us. The seeds we planted in the first week are growing! So many of them have sprouted! And it has been very interesting to see how the different conditions are affecting the way they grow. We have observed that the seeds in Prep A are growing more quickly than the seeds in Prep B due to the variations in sun, warmth and water.
Literacy:
In Literacy, we have been continuing to learn about Fairy Tales. This has been lots of fun! Last week, we enjoyed Three Billy Goats Gruff and this week it was Jack and the Beanstalk. As part of this unit we have been reading the stories, using finger puppets to bring them to life and then doing a deep dive into the structure of the stories. Along the way, students have been learning more about how to write their own stories and producing short pieces of writing. This is all leading towards them independently writing their own story that incorporates characters, a setting and various events. They are doing a great job of it so far and we’re looking forward to seeing what they can produce.

Leader In Me:
This week, we have continued to discuss the Leader in Me (LiM) language to use during our outdoor games, including Be Proactive, Synergise and Think Win-Win. This has become a school-wide focus. There are now posters in every classroom and dotted around the school to remind everyone of the expectations. We are breaking these habits down into simple rules and expectations to help students understand how to play fairly, work together and make positive choices. Let’s all work together to make Le Page a happy and safe place for everyone to learn and play.
Specialist timetable:
Monday: Music, Auslan and RRRR
Tuesday: Leader in Me, PE and Art
Friday: Assembly (2.45pm in the hall, all parents welcome.)
Important reminders:
- Lost Property baskets are kept inside the glass doors of the BER and near the office of the main building.
- Please remember to check for your child’s Blue Satchel. This contains important information for the parents
