Wonderful 1

One-derful Class Chronicles
Term 4 Week 4 2026 - Friday 30th October
🌟 What We Have Been Up To
We have been busy learning and having lots of fun in Year 1! In Reading and Writing, we have been exploring persuasive texts through engaging picture books, learning how to share our opinions, give reasons and convince others using persuasive language. In Mathematics, we have been investigating location and time through hands-on activities, practising positional language, following directions and reading analogue clocks to the hour and half-hour.
We also had a fantastic time at our biodiversity incursion, where students enjoyed hunting for different creatures, exploring the environment and creating their very own bug hotels! Another highlight was welcoming so many grandparents and special visitors into our classroom on Friday. It was wonderful to share our learning and spend time together. Thank you to everyone who came along and made the afternoon so special!
As always, if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at madeleine.simos@education.vic.gov.au.

Reading & Writing
Students will be moving into a narrative writing unit, exploring stories that teach us an important lesson or moral. We will investigate how authors develop characters, settings and problems, and how these elements help communicate a message to the reader. Students will practise planning, writing and editing their own narratives, including a clear beginning, middle and end, with a meaningful moral or lesson.
Mathematics
Students will be exploring time, with a focus on reading and representing time using both analogue and digital clocks. They will learn to tell the time to the hour and half-hour, make connections between analogue and digital displays, and practise matching and recording times in different formats. Through hands-on activities and investigations, students will also sequence daily events and develop their understanding of how we use time in everyday life.
Science
Students will begin our Push and Pull unit, exploring how pushes and pulls can make objects move, stop or change direction. They will investigate how different forces affect the movement of objects through hands-on experiments and observations. Students will develop an understanding of how the strength and direction of a push or pull can influence how an object moves.
